WHO WE ARE

Fitotek is a Chilean company inserted in a global business of animal nutrition.

Our products are based on plants and herbs coming from the native forest.
We are specialists in the manufacture of powder from the Chilean quillaja (quillay) and boldo tree.

We are respectful of the forest law that gives a frame to the harvesting, nevertheless our focus is to make the best use of good practices that enhance the forest health.

Our facility is placed in the Fifth Region in the Aconcagua zone, at Putaendo commune.

Our harvesting zones are distributed in the countryside of central Chile.
We make a strong effort to deliver the best quality and safety in all our products.

ENVIRONMENT

Environmental Impact & sustainability

Our pruning allows for an initial reduction of the aerial parts of the trees, not only reducing evaporation rate and improving drought resistance, but also increasing regrowth and therefore CO2 entrapment.

The forests are essential for human welfare because providing different goods, like timber, energy, food, and ecological functions like soil protection, climate regulation, and biodiversity conservation.

The forest of the central zone of Chile is called “Sclerophyllous”, it fosters into hilly zones and semiarid climate, the vegetation is evergreen and has hard, thick leaves.
Its predominant plants, like quillaja and boldo, are well adapted to drought. However, climate change is threatening the ecosystems where they grow and a conservation effort is more needed than ever.

Our labor generates several benefits for the environment:

MAINTENANCE OF NATIVE FOREST AREAS
Maintenance of original areas with native forest, as landowners that receive payment for the logs harvested and see an ecological improvement, are less susceptible to use the land for agricultural purposes.

FOREST PRESERVATION
Our pruning helps to a maybe more sustainable than stronger regrowth of trees and to face the global warming and drought in a better manner.

IN ANIMAL FEED
By the using of our products in animal feed, the emission of greenhouse gases is significantly reduced (ammonia, methane) and the feed conversion is improved, reducing waste of nutrients.

TRACEABILITY
Traceability is carefully tracked from the origin of each log of wood until the end-user, guaranteeing a totally sustainable end product.

CERTIFICATIONS

We have in place food safety and quality systems HACCP & GMP.
We are certified as ecological producers through an organic certification body.
We are under the scope of a quality and safety system FAMI-QS.

Our fate is to deliver our products globally: we should point at the most demanding standards.

CONAF is the Chilean forest authority. They authorize our harvest through forest management plans or studies that are approved for each place where we prune trees.

Our approach is to prioritize and give preference to practices with higher ecological impact, for instance forest plans that seek a general pruning of the species, so enabling equilibrated regrowth.

Pruning procedures are limited to a just 35% without a of the biomass and spacing harvests to a minimum of five years, guaranteeing a renovation of the tree.

Quillaja or soap bark tree, is an evergreen tree in the family Quillajaceae, native to warm temperate central Chile. The inner bark of Quillaja saponaria can be reduced to powder and employed as a substitute for soap, as done for centuries by the native population. This is due to the presence of a glycoside saponin, known as quillaia saponin.

This tree of the family Monimiaceae is natively endemic to the central region of Chile, like quillay. This tree produces edible fruits and has medicinal properties due to the presence of boldine, a instead of an stilbene with strong antioxidant properties.
